Mindset is the most important thing. getting it in your head that the changes will be good for you.

This is my Mum, Tine (short for Christine). She’s a pretty amazing woman (bias aside) and has always been my number one fan.

12 months ago, she was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s and I’m grateful she has been willing to share the beginning of her thyroid journey with you on the podcast. Sharing your health story is always personal, and when it’s still ‘new’ and ‘unresolved’ (not that thyroid issues ever really resolve), I think it takes extra courage for speaking out. Thanks Mum!

Although diagnosed only 12 months ago, Mum looks back and can see related issues since she was a teenager – irregular periods, endometriosis, tonsils & adenoids removed. She’s had her thyroid (TSH only) tested on and off over the years – always normal. Last year after I did a series on common Hashimoto’s symptoms, she could really resonate with some symptoms (gut issues, insomnia, joint pain in particular) and with some (less than gentle prompting from me) she insisted her doctor refer her for a full thyroid panel **including thyroid antibodies** and that resulted in a Hashimoto’s diagnosis.

Since then she has embraced a gluten free diet and is slowly making other dietary and lifestyle changes, including trying hard to slow down.

Going gluten free has made a huge difference. I’m managing now. I’m not thriving yet, but I’m getting there.

Mum says that MINDSET is the hardest (and most important) part – it’s getting into her head that the changes are good for her and ‘worth it’… but is finding they are!

We also cover:

  • Making changes can be a grieving process -a continual one!
  • What she noticed with me as a teenager and as I was diagnosed at 23 with Hashimoto’s.
  • The challenges of making changes at 70 yrs old and in the baby-boomer generation.
  • Working with her personality to make things easier.
  • How she’s been educating her friends about thyroid health and a gluten free diet.
  • Slowing down.
  • Food!

I’m tackling things 1 thing at a time. My personality suits that.

Tine’s Top Tips!

  1. Build your support team.
  2. Pick your battles.
  3. Educate your friends.
  4. Experiment with your recipes.
  5. Don’t beat yourself up.
  6. Educate yourself.
  7. Listen to Annabel’s podcast 😉

Thanks Mum for all your support and encouragement. I’m so proud of you and how you’re dealing with your health. Love you. xx
