Management, minerals and mindset for hypothyroidism

Angela Brown, is both a holistic health coach and Functional diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner. Like so many working with thyroid patients, Angela also has a thyroid problem which gives her depth of experience and compassion.
Hypothyroidism v Hashimoto’s
Angela has hypothyroidism but NOT Hashimoto’s so we talk about the difference, testing and how the treatment protocol might differ – which is mostly in priority rather than substance! Eg diet and lifestyle are important for both but critical/non-negotiable for those with Hashimoto’s.
Diet is a non-negotiable for those with Hashimoto’s.
We also talk a fair bit about TESTING as so many of the women we both talk to don’t know if they have Hashimoto’s or straight hypothyroidism because often they are not tested. [see below for tests to ask for and a link to order tests in Australia if your doctor won’t] Testing is so important.
It took Angela 7 doctors, 12 years and a whole lot of self-belief and tenacity to be properly diagnosed and treated well. As she says, it’s easy to end up believing that it’s all in your head and that negative self-talk can get ingrained, ‘Maybe I am crazy. Maybe this is just how it’s going to be for me ‘ BUT deep down she knew something was wrong so she just kept going until she got proper help. This is such a common scenario.
You really do have to be pushy and diligent about your own health. As I always say, trust your instincts and keep digging until you find answers.
Getting the right kind of medication at the right dose is critical for those of us who need thyroid medication. We talk a bit about our personal experiences and that thyroid medication can be tricky. It can take years to find the right medication and dosage. It is NOT a cookie cutter approach.

Negative mindsets lead to stress which lead to inflammation…. so, we talk about how to develop an attitude of gratitude and positivity PLUS we talk affirmations and some good basic ones till you write your own.
