HOPE: How to have HOPE in the midst of dealing with chronic thyroid problems.
EPISODE 24
HOPE: How to have HOPE in the midst of dealing with chronic thyroid problems.
What is hope?
Hope can be defined as “desire accompanied by expectation of or belief in” “a strong and confident expectation… it deals with things we can’t see or haven’t received or both… hope is never a static or passive thing. It is dynamic, active, directive and life-sustaining.”
What does it mean to have HOPE?
- You believe things can get better.
- The best is yet to come
- It’s worth trying something new/different/be more consistent.
- Positive mindset.
- You are taking action, moving forward.
- You set goals, you have a vision/dreams.
What does it mean to be HOPE-less?
- That’s a dark place, bleak place.
- It’s normal to feel this, it can be overwhelming and disappointing when you don’t feel well.
- You can’t see things getting better.
- Make sure your thyroid is optimal.
- You give up, think there is nothing that can be done. There is always something even if that means to take a break from working so hard on your health for a little while.
- If you are still eating gluten/grains and feeling hope-less I’d encourage you to look into the gut/brain connection (eg Grain Brain by Dr David Perlmutter) as cutting gluten/grains can improve mood.
- If you are depressed please get help, remember depression is a symptom of thyroid problems, it is serious.
What does it actually mean to live in HOPE?
- Hope is active.
- Hope isn’t wishful thinking if you are doing the work.
- Do the daily actions. Be consistent. Results will come.
- You have dreams, goals, focus’ away from your health.
- Having hope means over time you can offer hope to others, so don’t be afraid to share your thyroid story with others.
- Try affirmations!
Be the hope for someone else.
