Have you every worried that you can’t afford a  thyroid-friendly lifestyle? I know, it can be expensive to live a healthy lifestyle. This topic came up in the last Kickstart group last year in one of our coaching calls, and I thought it would make a great podcast topic, so here it is!  

What is your ill health costing you?

  • Medications – not just thyroid medications but meds for symptoms – think pain killers, ant acids, weight loss pills and injections
  • Time off work
  • Coffee for energy
  • Wine for stress
  • Snacks
  • Eating out/take away b/c too exhausted to cook.
  • Impact on your marriage, relationships

Mindset

  • How much is your health worth?
  • It will cost you in the long term anyway so why not spend a bit more now so you have the health and energy to enjoy your life.
  • Decide what you’ll spend on and what you won’t.

Choose where you spend your money

  • Do what you can do on your own or cheap
  • Change your diet & lifestyle on your own or with cheap help eg podcasts, books, cheap courses.
  • Use your health team strategically to save money
  • Save the big bucks for specialised help
  • Test don’t guess -> supplements, medications you need, not ones you’re weeing down the toilet
  • DIY v buy

Practical Tips

  • Thyroid-friendly food is pretty basic – meat, eggs, veg, nuts/seeds some fruit. It’s the extra’s that add up. (although acknowledge you’re not filling up with empty carbs)
  • Avoid gf treats – make your own
  • Buy in bulk
  • Whole beasts – not necessarily cheaper but cheaper for quality.
  • Travel to your local wholesale/bulk/cheaper butcher
  • Invest in a deep freezer – now buying lamb $8/kg
  • Frozen/canned fish
  • Don’t have to buy grass fed organic – buy the best your budget can afford.
  • Veggie co-ops, wholesale markets
  • Grow your own esp herbs, salad greens
  • DIY personal care and household cleaning products.
